Sorin Mansion, or the Ancient House of Ong Luang Sorin, stands as a magnificent architectural jewel in the historic village of Tha Rae. Constructed in 1932 by Mr. Ong Luang Sorin, a prominent Vietnamese merchant, the building is a masterclass in French Colonial architecture that seamlessly blends European aesthetics with local craftsmanship. The most extraordinary aspect of its construction is the total absence of steel and modern cement. Instead, it was built using a traditional lime-mortar technique—a mixture of lime, sand, sugarcane juice, and "Bong" tree resin—which has provided the structure with incredible durability and flexibility for over 90 years.

The exterior is visually striking, featuring vibrant mustard-yellow walls contrasted by arched windows and doors that exemplify classical European design. These sculptural arches serve both an aesthetic and functional purpose, distributing the weight of the heavy masonry walls without the need for internal steel reinforcements. Many of the mansion’s interior components, including door latches and decorative ornaments, were imported directly from France, reflecting the high social status and the flourishing Indochina trade influence that shaped the region during the early 20th century.

Beyond its role as a grand residence, the mansion once functioned as a bustling general store, serving as a vital commercial and cultural hub for the Catholic community in Tha Rae. Although the house is no longer inhabited, the descendants of the Sorin family continue to meticulously preserve the estate, ensuring that the original structure remains intact. Today, it stands as a living museum of Colonial-era history, offering visitors a rare glimpse into the opulent past and the sophisticated architectural heritage of Sakon Nakhon province.

• From Sakon Nakhon city center, take Highway 22 (towards Nakhon Phanom) for approximately 21 kilometers. Upon reaching the Tha Rae intersection, turn right into Tha Rae village. The mansion is located on Rat Charoen Road. Parking is available along the roadside in front of the building.

• Dress Code: Due to the historical European architecture and vintage style, white attire or earth-tone colors would be ideal, creating a classic, timeless look for your photos.

• Stop for Coffee at Sorin Cafe: The descendants of the house owners have opened a small cafe located next to the mansion. You can enjoy a drink while admiring the beautiful building in a friendly atmosphere.

• Walking Route: Sorin Mansion is located near the "100-Year-Old House" and "Udomdechawat Mansion." We recommend exploring on foot along Ratcharoen Road to see other charming historical houses in the area.

• Respect Privacy: While photography outside is free, as the property is maintained by the Sorin family descendants, visitors should respectfully refrain from climbing on the building's structures and help keep the area clean.

• Include Christmas Trip: If you visit during Christmas, Tha Rae Village will be beautifully decorated with "stars" throughout the community, including the mansion, creating a unique and special atmosphere different from other times of the year.
