“Famous for the breathtaking sunrise view between the iconic Hashigui-iwa rock pillars.”

Hashigui Beach is a scenic coastal spot located in Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. It is best known for the extraordinary “Hashigui-iwa Rocks” (橋杭岩) — a natural formation consisting of over 40 massive, pillar-shaped rocks stretching approximately 850 meters into the sea. The rocks resemble the piles of a bridge and were formed through centuries of natural erosion, leaving only the hardest parts intact. This unique geological feature has been designated as a National Natural Monument of Japan.

The beach itself features pristine white sand and clear, calm waters, making it ideal for swimming, relaxation, and photography. During the warmer months (April to October), visitors can enjoy activities like sea kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). One of the most remarkable experiences here is watching the sunrise — when the sun rises perfectly between the rock pillars, creating a mesmerizing and unforgettable scene for both photographers and travelers.

How to Get There
  • From JR Kushimoto Station, it takes about a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride to reach the beach. Hashigui Beach is also conveniently located along National Route 42, making it easily accessible by car.
