“Original iron arch bridge Panoramic view of the Red River and Hanoi city Used for trains, bicycles, and pedestrians Historic landmark and Vietnam War symbol”

Long Biên Bridge was constructed by the French in 1902 to connect the Old Quarter of Hanoi with the industrial zones and residential areas on the east bank of the Red River. Designed as a cantilever iron bridge, it spans approximately 1,680 meters, making it the longest iron bridge in Southeast Asia at the time.

The bridge is not only a transportation route but also a significant historical symbol of Vietnam. It served as a main railway route for goods and passengers. During the Vietnam War, the bridge was repeatedly attacked and damaged, yet locals and engineers continuously repaired and maintained it. Today, it stands as a symbol of Hanoi’s resilience, strength, and enduring spirit.

Currently, Long Biên Bridge accommodates both railway traffic and pedestrian and bicycle paths. Visitors can walk along the bridge to enjoy panoramic views of the Red River, observe riverside communities engaging in daily activities such as fishing and boat repair, and photograph the historic structure. The bridge is also a popular spot for sunrise and sunset photography, especially in the morning when mist rises over the river.

Additionally, the bridge retains original architectural features such as iron arches and French-style support structures, attracting historians and photographers who wish to study and document its historical significance.

Long Biên Bridge is a prime location for capturing unique perspectives of trains crossing the old bridge, framed by the Red River and the Hanoi skyline. It serves as both a historical attraction and a natural viewpoint, offering visitors a combination of heritage, culture, and scenic beauty that is quintessentially Hanoi.
