“It is the highest 360-degree viewing point on Penang Island and also features a 230-meter suspension bridge that lets you walk through the ancient rainforest from the treetops.”
The Habitat Penang Hill is more than just a park but also a center for ecological discovery, built around conservation and education. Nestled within a 130-million-year-old tropical rainforest, one of the world's oldest and most complex terrestrial ecosystems, the forest serves as a crucial buffer zone for the UNESCO-listed Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve.
Nature Trail
The heart of The Habitat Penang Hill is the main nature trail, a 1.6-kilometer walkway designed as an easily accessible path that meanders along the mountain slopes. This trail immerses visitors in a truly pristine tropical rainforest world. Informational signs and observation points highlight the biodiversity, particularly:
-
Flora: Discover over 2,500 species of rare and endemic plants, including large, evergreen trees, a variety of giant ferns, and densely growing pitcher plants
-
Wild Orchids and Nepenthes: Rare wild orchids are on display in a specialized greenhouse, and visitors are provided with information about the carnivorous Nepenthes family. This is an indicator of the richness of the ecosystem.
-
Wildlife: Visitors have a high chance of encountering Penang's unique wildlife, such as spectacled monkeys, which often congregate in groups in the treetops, as well as giant black squirrels and a variety of bird species.
Langur Way Canopy Walk
One of its most important attractions is a sturdy, safe steel suspension bridge built to mimic the paths of animals in the treetops, particularly the spectacled monkeys, from which it gets its name.
-
Length and Height: The bridge is approximately 230 meters long and suspended above the valley floor, offering a bird's-eye view of the forest.
-
Experience: Offers a unique opportunity to observe life in the canopy, a "second forest," home to much of the rainforest, which is typically difficult for humans to access.
Curtis Crest Tree Top Walk
