“Enjoy the stunning view of Mount Kinabalu, surrounded by grasslands and herds of dairy cows. Visitors can feed the cows, take photos with the mountain view, and taste a variety of fresh dairy products from the farm.”

Desa Dairy Farm Kundasan is operated by Desa Castle (Sabah), an organization established to support Sabah's livestock industry. The farm aims to produce high-quality milk to meet the needs of the state's population. Located in Mesilau, the farm enjoys a moderate elevation and a cool climate year-round, making it an ideal environment for Holstein dairy cattle.

Dairy Production and Farming:

The farm houses hundreds of Holstein dairy cows, known as the world's "milk machines" due to their high milk production. Desa Farm produces an average of approximately 1 million liters of milk annually, and over 90% of this milk is processed and sold exclusively within Sabah, ensuring the farm's products are fresh and of high quality.

Visitors can observe the various processes that demonstrate the meticulous care and production of the animals:

  • Modern Dairy: The farm utilizes modern and hygienic milking equipment. Visitors can observe the milking process through a glass panel, especially during the afternoon (approximately 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM) when milking is performed.
  • Processing: After milking, the milk is processed and sold within Sabah. Milk is sent to the farm's processing facility, where it is processed into various flavors of pasteurized milk, yogurt, and cheese. The fresh pasteurized milk sold on the farm is a highly sought-after product.

"New Zealand of Borneo" Experience:

  • What makes Desa Dairy Farm so appealing is its landscape, which resembles the European Alps or a New Zealand dairy farm. The vast green fields slope down toward the viewer, with Mount Kinabalu as a majestic backdrop, making the farm one of the most beautiful photo spots in Borneo, especially in the early morning hours before the clouds obscure its peak.

Activities designed to provide both fun and educational agricultural experiences include:

  • Calf Feeding: Visitors can purchase bottled milk to feed to orphaned calves or calves separated from their mothers, a truly memorable experience for children.
  • Goat Grass Feeding: In addition to the cows, there is also a goat area where visitors can purchase small bunches of grass to feed to the goats up close.

Please note:

  • To maintain animal and environmental health, outside food and drinks are not permitted within the farm premises.

How to Get There
  • From Kota Kinabalu: Drive approximately 2.5-3 hours to Kudasang, then follow the signs to Mesilau.
  • From Kudasang City: Drive approximately 10-15 minutes. The road is mostly steep, so drive with caution.
