“Poring Hot Springs is a natural sulfur spring that helps relieve fatigue and is one of the areas where you can find rafflesia, the largest flower in the world.”

Poring Hot Springs, located in the lowland rainforest of Ranau District, Sabah Province, Malaysia, approximately 40 kilometers from Kinabalu National Park, is one of Sabah's most popular natural attractions. It combines natural beauty, tranquility, and relaxation with the natural sulfur springs that flow from underground.

The name "Poring" comes from the local Kadasan-Dusun language, meaning "giant bamboo," which grows densely in the area, reflecting the unique character of the lowland rainforest in this area. The surrounding area is humid and fertile, filled with tropical plants such as ferns, bamboo, and wild orchids.

The hot springs were discovered and developed during World War II by the Japanese, who occupied the area. They used the hot springs to soak and relieve fatigue. After the war, the Malaysian government renovated and developed the hot springs into a health tourism destination, offering services to both Malaysian and international tourists.

The area features several outdoor baths, both public and private, each using natural sulfur-rich mineral water, believed to relieve muscle aches, improve circulation, and smooth skin. There are also footbaths and natural swimming pools and private hot spring baths that tourists can rent.

Beyond the hot springs, the area offers a variety of other activities, including a walk along the "Treetop Suspension Bridge" 40 meters above the forest floor, offering a bird's-eye view of the lush rainforest. Alternatively, you can hike to the nearby Kipungit and Langan Waterfalls. There are also butterfly gardens, orchid gardens, and birdwatching spots.

For overnight stays, visitors can choose from a variety of accommodations within the Poring area, including wooden huts, chalets, and homestays, all offering complete amenities while remaining perfectly immersed in the natural surroundings.

Poring Hot Springs is a perfect destination for a relaxing and wellness experience, perfect for those seeking relaxation, rejuvenation, and a glimpse into the local lifestyle of Sabah in one of the most tranquil and beautiful corners of Borneo.
