Pulau Payar Marine Park is located in Kedah State, about 30 kilometers south of Langkawi and 59 kilometers from Penang. It consists of four small islands — Pulau Payar, Pulau Lembu, Pulau Segantang, and Pulau Kaca — all under the protection of the Department of Fisheries Malaysia.
The island is famous for its crystal-clear waters and rich coral reefs, especially at Coral Garden, which is filled with colorful hard and soft corals. Visitors can also spot a variety of tropical marine species, such as parrotfish, clownfish, butterflyfish, and the friendly blacktip reef sharks, which can be safely observed at close range.
Along the main beach area, there are wooden walkways and rest areas where tourists can relax. Popular activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, island boat tours, and underwater photography. Most travelers visit on day tours departing from Langkawi or Penang.
To preserve the marine ecosystem, overnight stays on the island are not allowed, and the number of daily visitors is limited. Tourists are required to follow park regulations — no touching marine animals, collecting corals, or feeding fish — to help protect the reef’s natural balance.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own essentials such as life jackets, snorkeling masks, swimsuits, hats, and reef-safe sunscreen for both safety and environmental reasons.
With its vibrant coral reefs, clear turquoise waters, and diverse marine life, Pulau Payar Marine Park is one of Malaysia’s top destinations for snorkeling, diving, and eco-tourism enthusiasts.
