“ A six-storey Southern Chinese architectural temple with dragon roofs and intricate designs, serving as a center of devotion to the Goddess Mazu and a key destination for Chinese New Year celebrations. ”

Thean Hou Temple (Thean Hou Temple) is a significant cultural and religious landmark, majestically situated on Robson Hill in Kuala Lumpur. It was completed and officially opened in B.E. 2532 (1989 CE) by the Selangor and Federal Territory Hainan Association. This temple is considered one of the largest Chinese temples in Southeast Asia. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mazu or the "Queen of Heaven," reflecting the maritime heritage of the Hainanese people.

The architecture blends the splendor of traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern techniques, distinguished by massive pillars, multi-tiered vaulted roofs, and carved dragon and phoenix motifs. The temple has six main levels, each floor incorporating the three major faiths Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. The surrounding temple grounds feature a Chinese herbal garden, a turtle pond, a sacred well, and a garden showcasing the 12 Chinese zodiac animals. Situated on a hilltop, the temple offers tranquility and shade, contrasting with the hustle and bustle of the city below.

Thean Hou Temple is also a cultural hub, hosting major festivals such as the Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as being a popular venue for marriage registrations. With its imposing structure, massive red pillars, and ornate roof, the temple is a photographer's paradise, particularly at dusk when the lantern light contrasts with the city view. The peak also offers excellent panoramic shots of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.

How to Get There
  • LRT : Take the LRT to the nearest station, which is Bangsar LRT Station or KL Sentral, and then take a taxi  directly to the temple
