“A living heritage village that preserves over 100 years of multicultural harmony and transforms its old streets into a vibrant open-air art gallery.”

Laem Sak Old Community, located in Ao Luek District of Krabi Province, is a historic coastal settlement that has existed for more than a century. Once a bustling trading hub with wooden shophouses on both sides of its main street, Laem Sak served as an important port connecting Phuket, Phang Nga, Penang, and Singapore—especially during the height_ of the mangrove charcoal industry.

Today, the community is celebrated as a “Three-Culture Village,” where Thai Buddhists, Muslims, and Baba–Nyonya (Peranakan Chinese) live together in peace. Their coexistence can be seen through local temples, mosques, traditional Peranakan-style architecture, and distinctive local cuisine. The hilltop Mahathat Temple offers a stunning panoramic view of the Andaman Sea, while the coastal Muslim villages reflect the area’s long maritime traditions.

Adding to its charm is the village’s street art, which turns its narrow wooden lanes into a vibrant open-air museum. Murals painted by local artists and youth depict scenes of traditional fishing, sea trading, and the unity among three cultures. These colorful artworks not only beautify the village but also share its rich heritage in a creative, visual way—making every corner perfect for storytelling and photography.

Visitors can stroll along the old wooden streets, admire the murals, visit Sea Gypsy Cave with prehistoric rock paintings over 3,000 years old, or join cultural workshops such as shrimp paste making, Peranakan dessert cooking, batik painting, and orchid replanting at Khao Chang Mob. End the visit at Mahathat Temple’s viewpoint, offering one of the most spectacular seaside panoramas in Ao Luek.
