“Home to world class dive sites with exceptionally high marine biodiversity, serving as a critical habitat for several species of rare sea turtles.”

The Derawan Islands are a tropical paradise located off the eastern coast of Borneo, widely recognized as one of the global centres of marine biodiversity. The archipelago's ecosystem is exceptionally rich, featuring several key islands like Derawan, Maratua, Kakaban, and Sangalaki, which attract travellers from around the world

What makes Derawan unique is its status as a major conservation area for green and hawksbill sea turtles. Visitors frequently witness sea turtles swimming nearby and nesting on the beaches. Additionally, Kakaban Island hosts a stingless jellyfish lake, a rare natural phenomenon where visitors can safely swim among the jellyfish.

The atmosphere across the islands is relaxed and tranquil, perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle. Snorkeling and scuba diving are the main activities, offering opportunities to explore remarkably intact coral reefs and diverse tropical fish populations. The best time to visit is during the dry season (April to October). With clear blue waters and stunning scenery, the Derawan Islands are a perfect location for photographers looking to capture the underwater world, couples seeking a romantic getaway, and those wanting to experience untouched nature.
