“A popular resort town nestled among mountains and Mount Sibayak, featuring a local fruit market and a unique and charming Batak culture”

Berastagi is a small town located on the Karo Highlands, about 66 kilometers from Medan. It is famous as a popular getaway destination for both Indonesians and international travelers, thanks to its cool weather all year round and the surrounding views of Mount Sibayak and Mount Sinabung rising majestically around the area.

One of Berastagi’s unique charms is its local fruit market, offering fresh mangosteens, passion fruits, and strawberries, as well as the traditional Batak Karo houses whose architectural style has been beautifully preserved through generations. Another highlight is the Burmese-style Buddhist temple “Lumbini Natural Park,” featuring a golden pagoda modeled after the one in Myanmar, which has become a striking viewpoint of the town. During the dry season from June to September, visitors can hike Mount Sibayak to watch the sunrise or enjoy the cool atmosphere of rice fields and flower farms. Meanwhile, the rainy season from October to March is perfect for those who prefer peaceful surroundings with white mist covering the mountain peaks.

Berastagi is also a favorite destination for photographers and couples who want to capture mountain landscapes and traditional villages, along with artists who are drawn to the authentic rural charm of Sumatra. Come and experience the enchanting mountain town of Berastagi, and you will fall in love with its natural scenery and cultural simplicity that remains beautifully captivating.
