“The intact main entrance gate and the expansive plateau offer sweeping views of Prambanan Temple and Yogyakarta city, creating a breathtaking vista, especially during the sunset hour”

Ratu Boko Palace (Ratu Boko Palace) is not a conventional temple like Borobudur or Prambanan, but rather the ruins of what is believed to be a royal palace or a residential complex for the ancient Mataram Kingdom during the 8th–9th centuries CE. a period when both Hindu and Buddhist influences flourished simultaneously. The name "Ratu Boko" comes from local folklore, referring to the palace of King Boko from the Prambanan legend.

This ancient site is located on a plateau, approximately 3 kilometers south of Prambanan Temple. The most significant feature is the grand main entrance gate, with its elegantly standing stone pillars. Remnants of other structures, such as the public assembly hall (Pendopo), sacred wells (Waduk), and various hidden buildings, indicate the complexity and grandeur of the architecture in the past. The site is a crucial historical record that helps us understand the residential patterns of ancient royalty.

The feature that most captivates visitors is the spectacular panoramic view available from the palace grounds, particularly during the late afternoon. Tourists often gather here to witness the stunning sunset. The golden and orange light washes over the ancient gate ruins, creating an atmosphere that is uniquely tranquil, mysterious, and romantic. From this vantage point, the spires of Prambanan Temple are also visible in the distance.

With its beautiful scenery and mystical atmosphere, Ratu Boko is an ideal location for landscape photographers and couples seeking impressive shots during the golden hour. It is also well-suited for history lovers who wish to experience an ancient site that was not just a religious sanctuary but a place connected to the daily life of ancient royalty
