Kawah Putih is a spectacular natural destination located in the Ciwidey area, south of Bandung, Indonesia. The name Kawah Putih translates to White Crater, referencing the white soil and sand surrounding the lake. This lake sits in the crater of Mount Patuha, and its unique feature is the ability of the water to change color, ranging from pale blue, greenish-white, to grayish-white, depending on the mineral content and weather conditions.

The charm of this volcanic crater lies in its almost alien-like atmosphere. Sulfurous vapor continuously billows from the water's surface, creating a thin mist over the lake, which makes the surrounding scenery mysterious and truly magnificent. Although the sulfur odor is quite strong, the contrast between the turbid colored lake and the dense green forest around the rim is a visually stunning and memorable sight. It holds geological significance as it is still an active, albeit quiet, volcano.

The best time to visit is during the early morning when the air is still cool and the sulfur fog is not too dense. Visitors can walk along the wooden pathways built for safe viewing, feel the cold mountain air, and hear the gentle bubbling sounds near the lake's edge. Witnessing the shifting hues of the lake is an incredible experience that makes visitors feel as if they are standing on a different planet.

• Private Car: Drive south from Bandung, which takes approximately 2–3 hours, following the main road towards Ciwidey. There is a parking area at the top.

• Public Transport/Rental: From the main bus terminal in Bandung, you can hire a car with a driver or take a shared minivan (Angkot) to Ciwidey, then transfer to a local vehicle to the entrance.

• Site Shuttle: Upon reaching the main entrance, a small shuttle bus called "Ontang-anting" is available to transport visitors up to the crater area (private cars are not generally allowed up to the crater during normal hours).

• Best Season: The ideal time to visit is during the dry season, April to October, when the weather is clearer and there is a higher chance of beautiful photos.

• What to Wear: You should bring a jacket or warm clothing, as the air at this high altitude is cool and can be quite cold, especially in the morning.

• Photography Tip: Early morning light is the best. It is highly recommended to bring a mask or respirator to help mitigate the strong sulfur smell in certain areas.

• Safety Note: Do not stay near the crater for too long (recommended maximum is 1 hour) due to potential effects from the sulfur fumes.

• Planning: Allow extra time for potential traffic congestion on the mountain roads and ensure you have sufficient fuel.
