“ The building features outstanding Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture, built in 1896, and the interior is divided into four main exhibition rooms that present the stories of batik, songket, and jewelry of various Malaysian ethnic groups ”

The National Textile Museum Malaysia officially opened in 2010 with the purpose of celebrating and preserving the country’s rich textile heritage. This place is not only renowned for its exhibitions, but also for the building itself, which is an old structure in Mughal–Islamic (Mughal-Islamic) or Indo–Saracenic architectural style, built in 1896 by architect Arthur Benison Hubback. The building is located between the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Dayabumi Complex, making it one of the important historical landmarks of Kuala Lumpur. The interior exhibitions of the museum are divided into four main galleries, guiding visitors through the evolution of Malaysian textiles in depth.Pohon Budi Gallery presents the history of textiles, traditional tools, and ancient techniques used in fiber production and weaving.Pelangi Gallery displays traditional clothing and costumes of various Malaysian ethnic groups, including batik and Baba–Nyonya attire that reflects diverse cultural influences.Teluk Berantai Gallery focuses on Malay textile heritage, especially songket, which features intricate gold-thread embroidery, and Limar, known for its delicate craftsmanship.Ratna Sari Gallery exhibits gold, silver, bead jewelry, and handicrafts of different ethnic groups, showcasing their identity and aesthetics through the art of adornment. The experience of visiting this museum is to immerse yourself in the delicate craftsmanship and ancient artisan skills reflected through every fabric, motif, and piece of jewelry. The building’s high ceilings, arches, and detailed carvings make the visit full of elegance and a sense of timelessness. This place is suitable for history and architecture lovers, textile designers and fashion students, and cultural tourists who seek to understand Malaysia’s ethnic diversity through clothing and handicrafts.
