“ The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a renowned natural attraction filled with Balinese long-tailed macaques, ancient Hindu temples, and shaded jungle pathways, offering visitors a perfect blend of cultural immersion and natural exploration. ”

The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is one of Ubud’s most iconic nature and cultural attractions, set within a lush tropical forest carefully preserved for its ecological and spiritual value. The area is home to over a thousand Balinese long-tailed macaques living freely among ancient temples, stone carvings, and giant banyan trees. Visitors can enjoy a refreshing forest environment while learning about Balinese Hindu beliefs and the harmony between people, nature, and wildlife.

The sanctuary features three significant temples: Pura Dalem Agung, Pura Beji, and Pura Prajapati. These sacred structures, together with the famous Gawa-Gawa stone gate, intricate carvings of deities, and the iconic vines-covered bridge, highlight the rich architectural heritage of Bali. Their mysterious atmosphere blends beautifully with the lively movement of monkeys that roam the forest naturally.

During the dry season from April to October, the forest is at its most vibrant, offering ideal conditions for walking, photography, and observing the monkeys. Mornings are the best time to visit, with soft sunlight, calmer monkeys, fewer crowds, and a peaceful atmosphere perfect for capturing beautiful shots—especially around the ancient roots, river paths, and mossy stone structures.

The Monkey Forest also appeals to photographers, artists, content creators, and couples who appreciate natural, mystical settings. Its towering trees, ancient shrines, and dramatic root formations create a unique backdrop that brings out the charm and mystery of Ubud’s deep forest culture.

With its seamless blend of nature, culture, and wildlife, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary offers an unforgettable experience for all visitors looking to discover the authentic soul of Bali.
