“Rising about 2,954 meters above sea level, Mount Apo is known as the “Roof of the Philippines” and serves as the natural habitat of the Philippine Eagle, the country’s national bird.”

Mount Apo is an inactive volcano and the tallest mountain in the Philippines, standing approximately 2,954 meters above sea level. Straddling the provinces of Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, and North Cotabato, the mountain features diverse ecosystems and breathtaking scenery, making it one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic hiking destinations.

Mount Apo The surrounding area of Mount Apo is designated as a national park, rich in biodiversity and covered by mossy forests, endemic flora, and fauna. The park is also home to the rare Philippine Eagle, one of the world’s largest raptors and the national symbol of the Philippines. Trekkers often experience the serene sounds of nature and the fresh mountain air as they ascend.

Several established trails lead to the summit, including the Kapatagan, Kidapawan, and Sibulan routes—each offering unique landscapes and varying levels of difficulty. A typical climb takes two to three days to complete, and hikers are required to secure permits from park authorities before starting the trek.

At the summit, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views above the clouds, along with ancient volcanic craters, hot springs, and lakes that hint at Mount Apo’s volcanic past. It is considered one of the most beautiful sunrise spots in the Philippines and a symbol of pride for the people of Mindanao.

Beyond its natural grandeur, Mount Apo also holds deep spiritual significance for local indigenous groups who believe the mountain is home to guardian spirits of nature. Climbing Mount Apo is thus seen not only as a physical challenge but as a spiritual journey that connects one deeply with the natural world.
