“UNESCO World Heritage site Demonstrates Ifugao ingenuity in water and land management Over 2,000 years old Stunning views from Banaue Viewpoint and Batad Village”
The Banaue Rice Terraces symbolize the culture and wisdom of the Ifugao people. They showcase the ability to adapt to mountainous terrain without machinery. An intricate irrigation system channels rainwater and small streams to ensure each terrace has sufficient water for rice cultivation.
These terraces were built entirely by hand using traditional tools. The steep and elongated terraces extend for hundreds of meters. Visitors can trek through Batad and other villages to experience traditional farming life and the breathtaking scenery.
During harvest season (August–November), the terraces turn golden, attracting photographers and travelers to capture the beauty from elevated viewpoints in Banaue.
The villages surrounding the terraces preserve the Ifugao culture, including traditional attire, dances, and rice rituals, allowing visitors to learn about a lifestyle passed down through generations.
Beyond its visual splendor, the Banaue Rice Terraces play an important economic and tourism role, providing income for locals through homestays, guided tours, and handicrafts.
