“It showcases the most beautiful and complete collection of over 14,000 Khmer sculptures in the world, narrating the history and art of Cambodia from the 4th century onwards, housed within an elegant traditional Khmer architectural building.”

National Museum of Cambodia is located in the heart of Phnom Penh, near the Royal Palace. It is distinguished by its architecture inspired by traditional Khmer temples, built with beautiful red brick and featuring gabled roofs adorned with Naga statues. The building was constructed between 1917 and 1920 and serves as the nation's most important repository of cultural and historical treasures.

This museum houses the greatest collection of Khmer sculptures in the world, displaying artifacts chronologically according to historical periods: prehistoric, the Pre-Angkorian period (4th–9th centuries), the Angkorian period (10th–14th centuries), and the post-Angkorian period. The exhibits include sandstone sculptures of Hindu and Buddhist deities such as the eight-armed Vishnu from West Mebon, bronze figures, ceramics, and anthropological objects.

The displays are arranged across several halls, all of which open onto a beautiful and tranquil courtyard garden an oasis of calm from the city's bustle. Here, visitors can see the sophistication and high craftsmanship of the Khmer civilization in various fields, including bronze casting, stone carving, and decorative arts. The museum is not only an exhibition space but also serves as a learning resource and a place of worship for some of the sacred artifacts.

The National Museum is suitable for history, archaeology, and art enthusiasts of all ages. The comprehensive exhibitions provide a profound understanding of the cultural heritage spanning millennia of the Cambodian people and are a powerful reflection of the grandeur of the Khmer Empire.
