“A prominent religious landmark featuring large Buddha images carved from natural rock on a high hill, with a long Naga staircase leading to the summit offering expansive views of the Cambodian countryside.”

Phnom Santuk is a significant religious site in Kampong Thom Province, Cambodia, located on the summit of the hill of the same name, which stands approximately 67 meters high. The journey to the top requires ascending a flight of 970 stone steps that stretch majestically. Historically, the hill has been known by various names, including Preah Bat Chan Thoung and Phnom Chey Serei. Today, Phnom Santuk is a hub of devotion where people come to worship and admire its historical beauty, particularly the stunning carved Buddha sculptures which demonstrate remarkable craftsmanship.

The main attraction of Phnom Santuk is the large Reclining Buddha carved into the natural cliff face. The hill area is dotted with many ancient Buddha images and stupas, including seated Buddha statues and a replica of the Buddha's footprint, which date back many years, reflecting the flourishing state of Buddhism in the area. Furthermore, the religious complex meticulously preserves the Khmer religious architectural style, making it a crucial site for cultural and historical learning.

The atmosphere at the hilltop is peaceful and shaded, ideal for pilgrimage and relaxation. During major Buddhist festivals, local devotees flock here to perform religious rites, making the place exceptionally vibrant. The experience of climbing the Naga staircase and witnessing the panoramic view of the Cambodian countryside from above creates a memorable and soothing experience for visitors.
