“Three historic buildings showcasing Hakata merchant life, traditional handicrafts, and immersive cultural experiences including a yukata/kimono try-on.”
Hakata Machiya Folk Museum consists of three distinct buildings:
-
Exhibition Hall – displays the history of Hakata and traditional daily life.
-
Machiya Hall – an original Meiji-era merchant house relocated and restored, offering an authentic look at living and working spaces of the past.
-
Tradition Hall – space for live handicraft demonstrations, including Hakata Dolls, Hakata Niwaka masks, and Hakata-ori weaving.
Visitors can explore recreated interiors, learn about Hakata-ben dialect, customs, and participate in hands-on cultural experiences.
