Bor Sang Umbrella Making Centre is located within Bor Sang Umbrella Handicraft Village, Thailand's most famous 'Sa' paper umbrella production site, and one of Chiang Mai province's internationally recognized handicraft symbols. It boasts a history spanning over 100 years.

The wisdom of Bor Sang umbrella making began with Phra Kru Kangjanta, who traveled to Myanmar to study umbrella-making techniques before bringing the knowledge back to teach the villagers in Ton Pao Subdistrict. It then became the main occupation for the community and has been passed down from generation to generation to the present day.

The unique characteristic of Bor Sang umbrellas lies in being handmade through almost every step, from selecting bamboo to whittle into the frame, assembling the ribs, making 'Sa' paper from mulberry bark pulp, stretching fabric or paper onto the frame, applying base colors, and painting intricate patterns of flowers, leaves, birds, butterflies, and graceful Lanna designs. All are works of meticulous artisans, each with a unique style.

Upon visiting the handicraft center, tourists can closely observe demonstrations of every process, from initial production to finished umbrellas, and converse with artisans to learn about local wisdom. Additionally, there's an umbrella painting workshop activity that allows visitors to design their own patterns. Guests can also bring personal items such as hats, T-shirts, cloth bags, canvas shoes, phone cases, or jeans for artisans to paint with Lanna-style designs.

In addition to 'Sa' paper umbrellas, the village also gathers a variety of other local handicrafts, including 'Sa' paper fans, lamps, wood carvings, lacquerware, cotton products, and Lanna-style home decor. All are produced by skilled artisans in the community, perfect for souvenirs or collectibles.

Another popular time to visit is the Bor Sang Umbrella and San Kamphaeng Handicrafts Festival, held annually during the 3rd week of January. During the festival, the entire street is beautifully decorated with colorful umbrellas. There are parades, a Bor Sang beauty pageant, Lanna cultural performances, handicraft stalls, and artisan demonstrations from the community. It is an important festival that helps preserve and disseminate the local wisdom of San Kamphaeng people to tourists worldwide.

With the charm of traditional folk art beautifully preserved, Bor Sang Umbrella Making Centre is a cultural tourism destination suitable for those who wish to experience the Lanna community lifestyle, learn ancient handicrafts, and purchase souvenirs that truly reflect Thai wisdom.

• From Chiang Mai city, take Highway No. 1006 (Old Chiang Mai–San Kamphaeng Road) heading towards San Kamphaeng District, approximately 9–10 kilometers.
  Upon reaching Bor Sang Intersection, turn onto Bor Sang–Doi Saket Road and follow the signs to Bor Sang Umbrella Making Centre. You can directly pin Bor Sang Umbrella Making Centre on Google Maps. Travel is possible by private car, taxi, hired vehicle, and white songthaew (shared taxi) on the Chiang Mai–San Kamphaeng route.
