Wat Chom Sawan

Wat Chom Sawan is a historic temple built during the reign of King Rama V (approx. 1894) by the Shan (Tai Yai) people who settled in Phrae for the teak trade. It is renowned for its Burmese-Mandalay style combined with Shan architecture. The main structure is a "Jong," a multi-purpose teak building that houses the ordination hall, prayer hall, and monk quarters under one roof. Its roof features nine tiers of cascading teak, decorated with intricate fretwork. The temple houses rare ancient artifacts and was registered as a national monument in 1990.
