The Pla Cha-on, or Butter Catfish, is a scaleless freshwater fish in the Siluridae family, commonly found in Bueng Boraphet. It is characterized by a long, laterally compressed body, a small head, and two pairs of barbels on its snout. The body typically features a shimmering silvery or pale white hue with a deeply forked tail. Renowned for its delicate, flavorful flesh with minimal intramuscular bones, it is a highly prized ingredient in Thai cuisine, famous for dishes like Chu-Chee (Red Curry) or fried with garlic. It is currently being promoted as a key emerging economic species in Thailand's aquaculture sector.
