The Drum Tower

The two-story structure at the feet of the Reclining Buddha is a Drum Tower (Taiko-ro). Its architecture resembles a traditional Japanese bell tower but houses a large ceremonial drum. Historically, such towers were used to signal the time or mark the beginning of religious ceremonies. The lower level often serves as a space for administrative tasks or storing sacred items, while the upper level provides an elevated platform for the drum.
