“Explore the natural sandbar connecting to Koh Man Nai during low tide and discover the unique local legend behind the name "Kai Bae" while watching the most beautiful sunset on Koh Chang.”

Kai Bae Beach is located on the western coast of Koh Chang. It is an area with a unique character and a fascinating historical background. The name Kai Bae sounds unusual even to Thais. According to local folklore, Kai means wild chicken, which used to be abundant in this area. Bae is a local dialect or an old accent that evolved from the word Ploi, meaning to release or to let spread. This refers to the large numbers of wild chickens that once roamed and bred freely along this shore. Another legend suggests the name describes the landscape’s rock formations, which resemble a chicken spreading (Bae) its wings. This name serves as a reminder of the rich natural abundance the area has enjoyed for generations.

The geography of Kai Bae Beach stretches for about 2 kilometers and offers a diverse physical landscape. The northern part features a wide, fine sandy beach ideal for sunbathing and swimming. In contrast, the southern section is characterized by rocks interspersed with sand and iconic leaning coconut trees that curve toward the ocean, creating a classic tropical aesthetic. A rare highlight is the view of four small islets lined up off the coast: Koh Man Nok, Koh Man Nai, Koh Plee, and Koh Suwan. these islands act as natural breakwaters, keeping the water calm and exceptionally clear.

The major draw for adventurers is kayaking to Koh Man Nai, located just a few hundred meters from the shore. During extreme low tide, a long natural sandbar emerges, connecting Kai Bae Beach directly to Koh Man Nai. This allows visitors to walk across the shallow water to the island on foot an exciting experience that feels like walking on a path in the middle of the sea. Once on Koh Man Nai, the atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and private, making it the perfect escape for travelers looking to sit back and enjoy the cool sea breeze away from the crowds.

Beyond the beach's beauty, the surrounding area is a vibrant community equipped with various facilities, including diverse restaurants, cozy cafes, and local shops that maintain a friendly, laid-back vibe. Not far from the beach is the Kai Bae Viewpoint, an essential check-in spot located on a hillside. Tourists gather here in the evening to witness the sunset. The golden and crimson light fading behind the offshore islands is a breathtaking sight, earning it a reputation as one of the most romantic sunset spots on Koh Chang.

Kai Bae Beach is the perfect destination for those seeking tranquility without feeling too isolated. The simplicity of the local lifestyle, combined with historical tales and preserved nature, gives this beach a charm unlike any other on the island. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast or a couple seeking a quiet getaway, spending time at this beach will help you truly understand the meaning of a relaxing vacation
