“Be amazed by Thailand’s only concrete arch dam with its grand scale, enjoy one of the most beautiful sunset viewpoints over the reservoir, and experience the starting point of scenic rafting routes toward Doi Tao.”
Bhumibol Dam, formerly known as Yanhee Dam, began construction in 1953 and was granted the name “Bhumibol Dam” in 1957. It is regarded as one of Thailand’s most important national water resource development projects.
World-Class Architecture
The dam is a single-radius concrete arch dam, standing 154 meters high and 486 meters long. It was once the tallest dam of its type in Southeast Asia. Its elegant curved structure harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding mountain ranges.
Things to See
The dam crest offers a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the vast reservoir that stretches endlessly into the distance. Below the dam lies Suan Ruamruthai, a peaceful landscaped garden ideal for relaxation and photography.
Highlight Activities
Rafting above Bhumibol Dam is a popular activity. Visitors often raft to Wat Phra That Kaeng Soi or take longer overnight rafting trips toward Doi Tao District, Chiang Mai, enjoying serene mountain scenery, river islands, and the calm rhythm of life along the water.
