“Pilok Mine Ascent Viewpoint, Km. 15, is a roadside rest stop on a mountain ridge located within Thong Pha Phum National Park. It is one of the most beautiful sunset viewpoints in the area.”

Pilok Mine Viewpoint is located along the mountain road in the Tenasserim Range, in Thong Pha Phum District, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand. The area is part of a lush montane rainforest with rich biodiversity and a cool climate throughout the year. In the late rainy season and winter, high humidity often leads to frequent sea-of-mist conditions. The route to Ban E-Tong and the Pilok Mine area is a steep and winding mountain road with numerous curves along the way. As a result, this viewpoint serves as a rest stop and scenic overlook where travelers can pause, relax, and enjoy the surrounding landscape during their uphill journey. From the viewpoint, visitors can see layers of complex mountain ranges stretching across the Tenasserim Range all the way to the Thailand–Myanmar border. The valleys below are often covered in morning mist, creating a beautiful sea of clouds that looks like white waves flowing between the mountains.

During the best time to visit, especially early morning around 05:30–07:30, after rainfall or in the winter season, thick mist and sunrise light can dramatically enhance the scenery as sunlight reflects off the mountain peaks. The viewpoint area includes a parking space and a viewing platform for tourists, as well as small local stalls selling drinks and snacks for convenience. Although it is a relatively simple stop, it is considered one of the key viewpoints along the Pilok route that should not be missed.Travel requires extra caution due to steep slopes and sharp curves. Drivers are advised to use low gear and ensure their vehicle is in good condition before ascending, especially the brakes and engine system.

The viewpoint is open 24 hours a day with no entrance fee. However, visiting during daylight or early morning is strongly recommended for both safety and the best viewing experience.

How to Get There
  • By car: From Kanchanaburi city, take Highway 323 to Thong Pha Phum District, then turn onto Highway 3272 toward Ban E-Tong. The viewpoint is located around Km. 24–25, approximately 6 km before Ban E-Tong village.
  • By public transport: Take a van or bus from Kanchanaburi to Thong Pha Phum, then transfer to a local shared pickup truck (songthaew) on the Thong Pha Phum–Ban E-Tong route and ask the driver to stop at the viewpoint.
