Khao Matree Viewpoint is considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints and an important landmark of Chumphon Province. Located on the peak of Khao Matree, which is not very high but offers an excellent vantage point, visitors can enjoy a panoramic 360-degree view of the surrounding scenery. You can see the overall view of Chumphon city, peaceful fishing villages, and the curved shoreline of Farad Beach stretching towards the Gulf of Thailand.

One of the main highlights of Khao Matree is that it is one of the most beautiful places in southern Thailand to watch the sunrise and sunset. On one side, you can watch the sun rise above the sea horizon, while on the other side, you can watch it set behind the mountain range in the evening—ideal for photography and relaxation in the sea breeze.

At the top of the hill stands a large Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Guan Yin) in the Maharajalila posture, facing the sea. Fishermen and locals hold deep reverence for the statue, believing it offers protection during sea journeys. Nearby, you will also find a pavilion for viewing the scenery, a feeding area for wild monkeys, and a café with a scenic terrace.

Khao Matree Viewpoint also offers full facilities, including parking, restrooms, restaurants, and several small cafés. Visitors can relax with a cup of coffee while enjoying the view of the sea and Chumphon city, making it a great spot to visit in both the morning and evening.

• Private car: Follow the main route toward Pak Nam Chumphon or Farad Beach (Highway 4119 or 4098). As you get close to Farad Beach, you will see clear signs pointing to Khao Matree Viewpoint. The road up the hill is concrete and steep, so drive with caution.

• Public transportation: You can hire a taxi or a motorcycle taxi from Chumphon city to go directly to the viewpoint. It is recommended to agree on the fare in advance since the road leads uphill.

• It is recommended to visit early in the morning to watch the sunrise, or in the evening to watch the sunset, which are the most beautiful times for the view and sky.

• Because the road uphill is steep, drivers should check their vehicle condition and use low gear.

• Parking at the top is limited. During peak seasons, you may need to park at the lower lot and walk a short distance up.

Entrance Fee:

• There is no entrance fee to visit Khao Matree Viewpoint. Visitors only need to pay for food or beverages at the cafés within the area if they choose to dine there.
