“Renowned for its unique colonial-style architecture utilizing red and white painted teak wood, and for being the site of the Phra Mongkut Klao Pavilion, a structure of significant historical importance.”
Hua Hin Railway Station is considered one of the most beautiful railway stations in Thailand and is a key symbol of Hua Hin town. The railway line first opened during the reign of King Rama VI and played a crucial role in transforming Hua Hin into a popular resort destination for the Royal Family and the nobility. The station building stands out with its mixed Victorian-Thai architecture, primarily utilizing teak wood painted in red and white—the signature colors of Hua Hin. Although a new station has been completed and is in use, the old Hua Hin Railway Station remains impeccably preserved as a crucial historical landmark.
The most distinguishing feature of Hua Hin Railway Station is the Phra Mongkut Klao Pavilion (Phra Mongkut Klao Pavilion), a red and white wooden structure similar to the station building. This pavilion was originally King Rama VI's royal waiting pavilion at Sanam Chan Palace in Nakhon Pathom Province before it was dismantled and reassembled at Hua Hin Railway Station to serve as a royal reception area. The architecture of the station building and the pavilion showcases the prosperity of the era when rail travel was novel and important. An old steam locomotive is also displayed on the platform, drawing considerable interest from tourists.
Hua Hin Railway Station is open to tourists daily throughout the year with no admission fee. The overall atmosphere is tranquil and classic, despite still being partially used for passenger services. Visitors gain a nostalgic experience of the travel atmosphere of the past. The main activity is photography, using the beautiful red-and-white wooden building and the Phra Mongkut Klao Pavilion as backdrops. The recommended times are early morning or late afternoon when the weather is cooler and the sunlight is softer. This location also serves as an excellent starting point for continuing on to other attractions in Hua Hin.
Hua Hin Railway Station is an unmissable spot for photographers, both professional and amateur, who appreciate vintage architecture and a sense of history. Couples frequently come here for pre-wedding shoots or commemorative photos. History and railway enthusiasts can observe and appreciate the antiquity of the building and the steam locomotive. Despite being centrally located in town, it maintains its own peaceful atmosphere and is easily accessible.
We invite everyone to visit Hua Hin Railway Station, a focal point of history, beautiful architecture, and the Phra Mongkut Klao Pavilion, to capture beautiful memories of this classic resort town.
