“Iconic white lighthouse at Laem Tanod, stunning sunset viewpoints, pristine white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush coastal nature trails along the Andaman Sea.”

Mu Ko Lanta National Park is located in Ko Lanta District, Krabi Province, covering an area of approximately 134 square kilometers (83,750 rai). It is one of the most significant marine national parks along Thailand’s Andaman coast, comprising numerous islands such as Ko Lanta Yai, Ko Lanta Noi, Ko Rok Nok, Ko Rok Nai, and Ko Ha, all of which retain remarkably rich and well-preserved ecosystems.

The park’s landscape is distinguished by its diverse geological formations across the island groups. At Laem Tanod, where the park headquarters is situated, a scenic cape extends into the sea, surrounded by rocky cliffs, open grasslands, and lush dry evergreen forests. This area serves as a natural habitat for a variety of wildlife, including pig-tailed macaques, squirrels, and numerous bird species, reflecting the vitality of its terrestrial ecosystem.

At the heart of the park stands the iconic white lighthouse at Laem Tanod. Originally constructed as a navigational aid for vessels along the Andaman coast, it has since become a symbolic landmark and one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Krabi. The cape is uniquely flanked by two contrasting beaches—one a rocky shoreline adorned with sculpted stones shaped by the waves, and the other a gently curving sandy beach with fine white sand and crystal-clear waters, offering a tranquil escape from busier tourist areas.

In terms of marine resources, the park is internationally renowned as a premier diving destination, particularly around the Koh Rok and Koh Ha island groups. These waters are home to thriving coral reef systems with exceptional biodiversity. Dominant coral species include staghorn, brain, and plate corals, alongside sea anemones and clownfish. On rare occasions, divers may also encounter majestic marine creatures such as whale sharks during certain seasons.

With its remarkable water clarity—often allowing visibility several meters down to the seabed—combined with the richness of both terrestrial and marine ecosystems, Mu Ko Lanta National Park stands as one of Thailand’s most valuable natural conservation areas, preserving its pristine beauty for generations to come.
