“The unique landscape of complex limestone mountain ranges surrounding the Sam Roi Yot Wetlands, a large freshwater marsh, alongside beautiful beaches and the Phraya Nakhon Cave, which houses an important royal pavilion.”

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park was established as Thailand's first coastal national park, celebrated for its rare geographical distinction. It covers mountainous and marine areas in Sam Roi Yot District. The core structure consists of steep limestone mountain ranges contrasting sharply with the low-lying Sam Roi Yot Marsh, a large freshwater wetland area recognized as a Ramsar Site of global importance. This unique blend of mountains, caves, sea, and marsh results in high biodiversity, making Khao Sam Roi Yot a pivotal destination for nature enthusiasts and adventurers.

The world-renowned highlight is Phraya Nakhon Cave, situated on Laem Sala Beach, which enshrines the Khuha Kharuehat Royal Pavilion, constructed during the reign of King Rama V for his royal visit. The phenomenon of sunlight streaming through the cave's sinkhole and illuminating the pavilion at the right time is a profoundly beautiful and astonishing sight. In addition to this major cave, the park also features the Khao Daeng Viewpoint, requiring a hike to receive panoramic vistas over the sea of mist at dawn and Sam Roi Yot Bay, as well as Khao Daeng Canal, an essential site for boat trips through mangrove forests and significant bird watching.

The diverse activities in Khao Sam Roi Yot are clearly segmented by area:

  • Adventure: Hiking and mountain climbing at Khao Daeng Viewpoint and Tham Sai Cave.

  • Boat Trips and Bird Watching: Nature boat trips at Khao Daeng Canal, a rich source of aquatic birds and mangroves.

  • Relaxation: Beach relaxation and camping at Sam Phraya Beach, the park's main overnight service area.

The most suitable time to visit is from November to February to enjoy the cooler weather and witness the arrival of migratory birds resting in the wetlands and mangrove areas, which is an indicator of the area's rich ecological health.

Khao Sam Roi Yot is truly a paradise for Bird Watchers, with over 300 recorded species inhabiting or migrating through the area. Landscape Photographers will find stunning compositional elements, including giant mountains, pristine beaches, and the sacred light inside the cave. Adventurers can test their fitness by trekking up to the caves and viewpoints. It is a place suitable for all ages interested in learning about ecosystems and nature conservation.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park is not merely a tourist destination but also a vast natural classroom that teaches the value of wetlands and limestone mountain systems. We invite everyone to discover the profound wonder of this National Park, where the beauty of mountains, caves, and sea converge perfectly, offering a memorable and enriching travel experience filled with knowledge and wonder.
