“Features unique limestone formations, pristine white sand, a sacred cave, the enchanting phenomenon of bioluminescent plankton at night, and is a famous global filming location.”

Phra Nang Cave Beach is one of the world's most beautiful and renowned beaches. Nestled at the southern tip of Railay Bay in Krabi Province, it's celebrated for its spectacular views of towering limestone cliffs, crystal-clear emerald waters, and fine white sand, drawing visitors from across the globe.

This place holds rich historical and legendary significance, being home to Phra Nang Cave. This cave is highly revered by local fishermen who believe it's the abode of Phra Nang, a sea goddess. It's also the setting for a poignant love legend involving Nang and Boon, which, according to folklore, led to the formation of the cave itself and the numerous small islands in Phra Nang Bay, such as the Shell Fossil Cemetery, Koh Tup, and Koh Mor – all testaments to Krabi's astonishing geology.

Phra Nang Cave is integral to the local community's way of life and beliefs. Visitors often bring wooden phalluses as offerings to seek blessings and show respect, reflecting the local reverence for fertility and sacred powers passed down through generations.

Phra Nang Cave Beach is a popular destination for tourists seeking natural beauty. There are various activities to enjoy, including sunbathing, swimming, kayaking, rock climbing, and it's considered one of the most beautiful spots to watch the sunset. Furthermore, during certain times of the year, especially around the waning moon from November to December, visitors might witness the enchanting phenomenon of bioluminescent plankton glowing in the dark waters, creating a truly magical experience.

Its exceptional beauty and charm have made Phra Nang Cave Beach a sought-after backdrop for numerous famous films and commercials worldwide. This includes the Pepsi Cola advertisement featuring global football star Ronaldinho from over a decade ago, as well as Hollywood and international films like Jurassic World Rebirth (2025), Around the World in 80 Days (2004), and Cutthroat Island (1995), further cementing its status as a world-class filming location.

This destination is perfect for all types of travelers, whether you're a couple seeking romance, a photographer looking for stunning shots, an adventure enthusiast, or simply someone wanting to relax amidst pure nature and explore local culture.

Legend

Phra Nang Cave Beach is steeped in a captivating legend that explains the origins of its sacred cave and surrounding geological formations:

The tale speaks of an elderly couple, "Ta Modung," who longed for a child. They implored a Naga (serpent deity) to grant them a daughter. The Naga agreed but with one condition: if it was a girl, she must marry the Naga's son. Soon, the couple had a daughter, the most beautiful girl in the region, whom they named "Nang." Nang fell in love with a local commoner named "Boon," despite the Naga's son attempting to woo her without success.

On Nang and Boon's wedding day, the Naga, enraged that his condition was broken, violently intervened to claim Nang. A great conflict ensued, and even a hermit who attempted to mediate could not stop the chaos. In his fury, the hermit cursed everything to turn to stone. Nang's bridal chamber became the Phra Nang Cave we see today. The sticky rice dessert from the wedding transformed into the Shell Fossil Cemetery, and other belongings became Koh Tup, Koh Mor, and the various islands scattered around Phra Nang Bay, reflecting the profound local beliefs and reverence for this place.

Don't miss to watch the macaque, a specie of conserved animals in Thailand, rarely found elsewhere but here. They lives near tropical almond trees, in front of Rayavadee Resort.
