“Powder-soft white beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, rare chicken crabs, and premier diving sites for whale sharks make this island a true Andaman paradise in Phang Nga.”

Tachai Island is located at the northernmost part of the Similan Islands National Park, between the Similan and Surin Islands. Named after its discoverer “Tachai,” the island was once ranked among the most beautiful islands in Thailand due to its untouched natural beauty.

The island was widely known for its powder-soft white sand beach, crystal-clear waters, and rich biodiversity, including the rare “Chicken Crab.” It also offered nature trails and snorkeling spots for visitors.

Due to severe environmental impact from mass tourism, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation officially closed the island in 2016 to allow ecosystem recovery.

Currently, Tachai Island remains "indefinitely closed," and tourists are not allowed to access the island. However, nearby dive sites such as Tachai Pinnacle are still accessible via liveaboard diving trips.

This closure serves as a significant case study in sustainable tourism and marine conservation in Thailand.
