“Pay homage to the golden octagonal Lanna-style chedi housing sacred relics, admire the remarkable Phra Chao Phra To wooden Buddha carved in one day, and see the historic bomb-shell bell linked to the famous “Phrae Bomb Parade” legend.”
Wat Phra That Sri Don Kham is believed to have been established around 1078 BE (535 CE) during Queen Chamadevi’s journey from Lopburi to Hariphunchai. Originally called Wat Huai O, the temple has undergone restorations across many eras and remains the spiritual center of Long District today.
Phra Chao Phra To – The “Instant Buddha” of Long
The temple’s most remarkable treasure is Phra Chao Phra To, a distinctive Lanna-style wooden Buddha image carved over 300 years ago. According to legend, it was completed within a single day using only a machete (phra), earning the title “Phra Chao Than Jai” (Instant Buddha). It is now officially registered as an antique by the Fine Arts Department.
Phra That Sri Don Kham
The elegant octagonal Lanna-style chedi, finished in radiant gold, enshrines sacred Buddha relics. It serves as the primary spiritual landmark for devotees from across the region.
Phra Chao Phra To Museum
This museum houses over a thousand wooden Buddha images along with ancient artifacts and traditional household items, offering deep insight into the cultural heritage and craftsmanship of Long District.
The Bomb-Shell Bell – Origin of the “Phrae Bomb Parade”
In front of the temple stands a bell made from an actual World War II bomb shell. Discovered and donated by villagers, it became the source of the humorous yet famous phrase “Phrae Bomb Parade.”
