“Witness dazzling crystal formations and unique stalactites across several chambers. Experience a serene, spiritual atmosphere perfect for nature exploration and making merit in this sacred cave.”

Kaew Sawan Bandan Cave is located within the grounds of Wat Tham Kaew Sawan Bandan in Nong Lu Subdistrict, Sangkhlaburi District, Kanchanaburi Province, near the route to the Three Pagodas Pass. It is a natural limestone cave formed by long-term erosion by groundwater, resulting in a large, interconnected cave system. The cave system is quite complex, with many chambers interconnected by natural rock formations.

Inside the cave are stalactites, stalagmites, and cave walls formed by the crystallization of natural minerals such as calcium carbonate. When illuminated, these formations sparkle, making the cave walls appear to shimmer like diamonds or glass crystals. However, this beauty is a geological phenomenon, not actual diamonds or glass, but rather the reflection of minerals in the limestone that have occurred naturally over thousands to tens of thousands of years.

The cave is divided into several interconnected zones or chambers, including areas with standing water, zones with uniquely shaped rock formations, and narrow passageways requiring caution when navigating. Some sections of the cave are steep, slippery, and may require climbing or bending to crawl through. Visiting this cave is more of a semi-adventure experience than typical tourist caves, making it suitable for those who are physically fit and seeking an immersive nature experience.

Located within a temple and meditation center, the cave offers a peaceful and serene atmosphere deeply connected to religious practices. Local monks use the area for meditation and studying nature and its surroundings. Therefore, visitors are required to dress respectfully and behave appropriately. Furthermore, conservation of the cave is crucial, as the stalactites and stalagmites form very slowly and can be damaged by direct contact.

To reach the cave, start from Sangkhlaburi town. Take Highway 323 towards the Three Pagodas Pass. Around kilometer 16-18, you will find a temple entrance beside the road. From there, drive along a dirt road for a short distance until you reach the temple grounds and the cave entrance. The final stretch of the road can be rough, and caution is advised, especially during the rainy season.
