“A vast city park famous for over 1,000 cherry trees and serene natural scenery.”
Maizuru Park serves as one of Fukuoka’s most beloved city parks, offering a relaxing escape surrounded by greenery, open lawns, and scenic pathways. The park is especially known for its seasonal beauty, transforming with the flowers of each season and providing peaceful spaces for walking, resting, and enjoying nature.
The highlight of the park is its 1,000+ cherry trees, which burst into color from late March to early April. During this period, the park becomes one of the most popular hanami (flower-viewing) spots in the city, complete with evening illuminations that create a magical atmosphere. In February, the plum blossoms add early spring charm, while the wisteria blooms in late April bring more color to the landscape.
Although the ruins of Fukuoka Castle stand within the park grounds, Maizuru Park’s character is defined more by its role as a recreational green space than as a historical site. Visitors come to stroll, jog, picnic, and enjoy a break from the city. Its direct connection to Ohori Park also makes it ideal for extended walks around the large pond nearby.
Facilities include open lawns, small playground areas, sports fields such as Heiwadai Stadium, and festival spaces used for seasonal events, including the popular cherry blossom festival.
