“Large central pond with islands, Japanese garden, Fukuoka Art Museum, and boating activities”
Ohori Park is a large public park in central Fukuoka, inspired by West Lake in Hangzhou, China. The main feature is a large pond with three small islands connected by elegant stone and wooden bridges, ideal for photography and sightseeing. At night, bridges and islands are beautifully illuminated. A 2 km walking and jogging path surrounds the pond, popular among walkers, joggers, and cyclists.
Visitors can rent rowboats or swan boats at the Boat House to enjoy scenic views from the water. In the southeast corner lies Ohori Japanese Garden, featuring a dry rock garden (Karesansui), artificial hills, winding streams, and a traditional teahouse, with a separate entrance fee. The Fukuoka Art Museum is located to the south, showcasing Buddhist art, classical art, and modern works by renowned artists such as Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró.
Spring is a prime time for cherry blossom viewing, especially near Maizuru Castle, and summer hosts the grand Ohori Fireworks Festival, one of Fukuoka’s largest events.
