“Ajahn Mun Museum enshrines his relics, which transformed into crystal-like formations, along with a lifelike statue and his personal requisites.”

Founded around 1847, Wat Pa Suddhawat was once a dense forest before being developed into a meditation retreat. It became highly significant when Phra Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta Thera, the most influential monk of the Thai Forest Tradition, resided here during the last years of his life. He passed away at this monastery on November 11, 1949 (B.E. 2492).

Phra Ajahn Mun Bhuridatta Thera was born in Khong Chiam, Ubon Ratchathani Province. He was ordained as a novice monk at the age of 15 and as a bhikkhu at 22 at Wat Liab, Ubon Ratchathani. Known for his strict adherence to ascetic practices and Vipassana meditation, he became the leading figure of the Forest Tradition. Many great disciples trained under him, including Luang Pu Fan Ajaro, Luang Pu Khao Analayo, and Luang Pu Waen Sujinno.

The Ajahn Mun Museum, located within the temple grounds, is a unique structure built in a modern-adapted architectural style with terracotta tiles. Inside, it houses a lifelike statue of Ajahn Mun in a meditation posture, a glass cabinet containing his relics that transformed into clear white crystal-like formations, as well as displays of his monastic requisites and biography from birth to passing.

Other important sites within the temple include:

  • Ajahn Mun’s Kuti (monastic hut): The original wooden dwelling where he spent his final years.

  • Chedi containing his relics: Built as a memorial and sacred site for devotees.

  • Ordination Hall and Sala: Used for religious ceremonies and meditation practice.

Today, Wat Pa Suddhawat remains a serene sanctuary, attracting both pilgrims and meditation practitioners seeking spiritual inspiration in the footsteps of Ajahn Mun.
