“A creative man-made waterfall offering year-round flows, shaded by Laplae's famous durian orchards, making it a perfect refreshing retreat for stream-side picnics.”
Mae Phun Waterfall, located in Mae Phun Subdistrict, Lablae District, Uttaradit Province, is a tourist attraction created by transforming a natural stream at the foot of a mountain into a tiered waterfall. The waterfall is constructed using a combination of rock and concrete structures arranged in tiers to allow water to flow beautifully year-round. Although not a naturally occurring waterfall, it has been developed to blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, becoming a significant tourist destination in Lablae District, popular with both local and out-of-town visitors.
The area surrounding Mae Phun Waterfall consists of low mountains and agricultural land, particularly orchards of local fruits such as Long Lablae and Lin Lablae durian, as well as longan and langsat, which are important economic crops of the province. The overall atmosphere is shady, cool, and ideal for relaxation during holidays. Tourists can stroll along the stream, rest at scenic viewpoints, or enjoy meals at local shops located nearby.
The waterfall itself has multiple tiers cascading down the slope. Water flows over concrete surfaces designed to mimic natural rock layers, creating a continuous curtain-like effect. In some areas, there are shallow pools suitable for swimming. The area has been improved to enhance safety for tourists, especially families and children. However, caution should be exercised during the rainy season when water levels may rise and currents may be stronger than usual.
Mae Phool Waterfall is also considered a stopover point connected to the local community of Lablae District. Tourists often continue on to the local market or restaurants in the district to experience local cuisine such as Khao Phan Phak (rice wrapped in vegetables) and Mi Phan (noodles wrapped in leaves), which are unique to the area. In addition, during the fruit season, around mid-year to late year, fresh fruits from local villagers' orchards are available for sale near the entrance, reflecting the agricultural way of life that remains a vital part of the Lablae area.
