“Experience the spiritual power of a sacred mountain while enjoying panoramic views of Uthai Thani and witnessing the nationally renowned Tak Bat Devo festival.”
Khao Sakae Krang is regarded as the symbol and spiritual heart of Uthai Thani Province. Located to the west of the city center, this sacred hill has long been closely connected to the way of life, faith, and history of the local community. At the summit stands Wat Sangkat Rattanakhiri, which enshrines Phra Phuttha Mongkhon Saksit, the revered Buddha image regarded as the spiritual symbol of Uthai Thani, known for its graceful appearance and profound sacredness. Visitors can reach the summit either by climbing the 449-step staircase as a test of faith and perseverance, or by driving along a paved road that offers a convenient and safe journey.
One of the main highlights of Khao Sakae Krang is the panoramic viewpoint overlooking Uthai Thani City, where visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the town, the Sakae Krang River, and the riverside houses below. At the summit, there is also a pavilion built to commemorate King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), serving as an important historical landmark, along with a replica of the Buddha’s footprint for Buddhists to pay their respects and seek blessings.
Another remarkable feature of Khao Sakae Krang is the Giant Bell, constructed during the reign of King Rama V. This bell holds both historical and cultural significance, and local belief holds that anyone who rings the bell will be blessed with good fortune, fame, and success. As a result, the giant bell has become a popular spot for visitors and pilgrims who come to pay homage and participate in this symbolic ritual.
Every year during the end of the Buddhist Lent, Khao Sakae Krang becomes the venue for the Tak Bat Thewo Festival, one of the most significant Buddhist traditions in Thailand. During this event, a large number of monks descend the 449 steps, symbolizing the Buddha’s descent from the Tavatimsa Heaven. In the morning, the atmosphere is filled with devotion and reverence, while in the evening, visitors can admire the golden hues of the sunset as it disappears behind the layered mountain ranges.
Khao Sakae Krang is an ideal destination for photographers seeking elevated viewpoints to capture the city during sunrise and sunset, as well as for families and art lovers who appreciate temple architecture and tranquil surroundings. The lush greenery of various trees covering the summit enhances relaxation, providing inspiration and a sense of peace to all who visit.
Khao Sakae Krang therefore represents a harmonious blend of natural beauty, religious significance, and cultural heritage. Visitors are warmly invited to immerse themselves in this unique atmosphere and collect unforgettable memories from their visit to the summit of Khao Sakae Krang.
