“Marvel at the surreal limestone formations of Maharaj Stone Garden, explore Erawan Cave and Pha Khlong Cave, admire coral-like rock ridges, and enjoy panoramic valley views over the Yom River basin.”
Doi Pha Khlong National Park covers parts of Long, Mueang Phrae, and Sung Men in Phrae Province. The park spans approximately 78,125 rai (125 square kilometers) and is characterized by steep mountain ranges and dramatic limestone landscapes rising 300–700 meters above sea level.
The area serves as an important watershed for the Yom River, with several tributaries including Huai Khamin, Huai Pha Kham, Huai Bia, Huai Nam Rin, Huai Mae Ta, and Huai Mae Sang. Some zones have been restored with teak plantations to rehabilitate forest ecosystems.
Historical Background
In 1987 (B.E. 2530), the Phrae Forestry Office established the area as Maharaj Stone Garden Forest Park to honor His Majesty the King on the auspicious occasion of his 5th cycle birthday anniversary. It was later designated as a national park to preserve its unique geological and ecological significance.

Major Attractions
Maharaj Stone Garden
A stunning natural limestone field where rocks emerge dramatically from the ground in complex formations. Some resemble crocodiles, dinosaurs, or prehistoric creatures. Large boulders appear to balance precariously on smaller ones, creating a fairy-tale atmosphere.
Coral Limestone Ridge (Rock Fissure Field)
Formed by ancient tectonic movements and long-term rain erosion, the limestone surface developed sharp ridges resembling coral reefs. A wooden walkway leads visitors safely to the summit, where unique plants such as Dracaena loureiri (Chan Pha) and cacti grow naturally.
Pha Khlong Cave
Located at the base of the coral limestone hill, featuring beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
Tham Chan Pha (Bat Cave)
A sizable cave inhabited by bats, with impressive limestone formations.
Kaeng Luang Rapids
Wide rock platforms in the middle of the Yom River. During the rainy season, rushing water crashes against the rocks, producing dramatic sounds and refreshing scenery.
Erawan Cave
Located across from Kaeng Luang Rapids. Inside is a large chamber with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites, some resembling the mythical three-headed Erawan elephant. Visitors can hire a local boat from Ban Kaeng Luang to cross the river.
