“Visit the Time Traveller Bridge, a stunning geological site where two eras meet, offering breathtaking cliffside Andaman views within the UNESCO Global Geopark.”

Mu Ko Phetra National Park is a maritime conservation area of immense geological and ecological significance, stretching along the Andaman coast from Tung Wa and La-ngu Districts in Satun to Palian District in Trang. The landscape is characterized by towering limestone cliffs and islands shaped like Chinese junks, which inspired the name "Phetra" from the Javanese-Malay word for sailing vessel. The park features diverse ecosystems, including dry evergreen forests clinging to limestone crags, lush beach forests, and vibrant coral reefs around remote islands like Ko Bulon, which serves as a sanctuary for rare marine life and various bird species.

The park’s world-class academic highlight is "Khao To Ngai," a primary site within the Satun UNESCO Global Geopark. This area hosts the famous "Time Traveller Zone," where a rare geological phenomenon is visible to the naked eye: the contact point between two distinct geological periods. Visitors can witness the stark transition between the red Cambrian sandstone of the Tarutao Group (approx. 541–485 million years old) and the grey Ordovician limestone of the Thung Song Group (approx. 485–443 million years old). This boundary was formed by a tectonic fault that brought these rock layers, separated by millions of years, into direct contact. A scenic coastal walkway allows visitors to traverse this "gateway through time" while overlooking the Andaman Sea.

Beyond its geological marvels, the park is a hotspot for biodiversity. The coastal nature trails are frequented by Brahminy Kites and White-bellied Sea Eagles soaring above the waves, while the limestone cliffs provide nesting grounds for numerous Edible-nest Swiftlets. Below the surface, the park boasts healthy shallow-water coral reefs, particularly around Ko Lao Liang and Ko Phetra, offering prime snorkeling spots for those seeking tranquility and undisturbed nature. The park's management emphasizes a balance between ecotourism and strict conservation to preserve this "billion-year heritage" for future generations.

How to Get There
  • From Satun city center, take Highway 406, then turn onto Highway 416 (Satun-La-ngu). Upon reaching La-ngu district, turn onto Highway 4052 towards Pak Bara Pier. The park headquarters is located near the pier area.

Travel Tips
  • It's best to visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat and get beautiful light for photography at Khao To Ngai.
  • Check the tide times in advance if you plan to walk along the beach or photograph the "Bridge Across Time."
  • Bring a hat, sunglasses, and drinking water as the cliffside walkway has little shade.
  • If you plan to go snorkeling or island hopping, check the weather and book your boat from Pakbara Pier in advance.
