“ The origin of the Pa Sak River from the Phetchabun Mountain Range, featuring natural rapids for rafting amid lush forests and a cool climate year-round.  ”

Sak Nga is a small village hidden in a valley in the southern part of Dan Sai District. Its geography forms a basin-like landscape surrounded by the Phetchabun Mountain Range, which acts as both a natural barrier and a moisture reservoir. As a result, the area features rich forest ecosystems and a noticeably cooler climate than the surrounding lowlands.

Sak Nga is considered a “headwater” of the Pa Sak River, formed by multiple small streams flowing down from forested highlands. The water here is clear, clean, and naturally mineral-rich, as it has not yet passed through agricultural zones or large communities.

The headwater ecosystem plays an important role in several aspects:

  • Serving as a natural water reservoir
  • Regulating water flow during both rainy and dry seasons
  • Providing habitat for aquatic life and certain rare wildlife species
  • Maintaining the overall balance of the Pa Sak watershed

The terrain consists of complex rocky mountains with steep slopes, resulting in:

  • Fast-flowing streams during the rainy season
  • Natural pools and rocky rapids such as “Kaeng Sak Nga”
  • Soil layers with high water retention capacity

These geological characteristics make the area ideal for rafting, with alternating sections of calm water and strong rapids.

The local community continues to live in close harmony with nature, including:

  • Subsistence agriculture
  • Seasonal forest foraging
  • Daily use of water from natural streams

The village functions as a close-knit small community, where visitors can experience genuine hospitality and community-based tourism.

Sak Nga has strong potential for ecotourism development, focusing on:

  • Seasonal rafting (seasonal adventure tourism)
  • Nature trekking trails
  • Learning about headwater ecosystems and environmental conservation
