“Conquer the 2nd highest peak in Thailand at 2,285 meters and experience staying at the country's highest campsite, Kiew Lom Campground.”

Doi Pha Hom Pok, formerly known as Doi Pha Luang, is the highest peak in the Daen Lao Range and the second-highest in Thailand, reaching 2,285 meters above sea level. The name Pha Hom Pok translates roughly to Covered by a Blanket, referring to its physical state where the summit is often blanketed by thick clouds and mist year-round. Located within the Doi Pha Hom Pok National Park, it covers lush forest areas in Fang, Mae Ai, and Chai Prakan districts of Chiang Mai, marking the border between Thailand and Myanmar.

The reason Doi Pha Hom Pok is a top destination for hikers and nature lovers is the challenge of the summit trek and the peaceful atmosphere, which is quieter than Doi Inthanon due to daily visitor limits. The forest surrounding the summit is pristine pine and montane forest. Along the trail, visitors find rare flora such as white Rhododendrons and Impatiens. It is also a paradise for birdwatchers and butterfly enthusiasts, as it is one of the few places on Earth where the rare Kaiser-i-Hind butterfly and various high-altitude birds can be spotted.

The unique charm of Doi Pha Hom Pok is staying at Kiew Lom Campground, recorded as the highest campsite in Thailand at approximately 1,924 meters. Most tourists wake up very early (around 03:30 - 04:00 AM) to hike the final 3.5 kilometers to the summit. From the 360-degree viewpoint, the sunrise reveals a magnificent sea of mist. To the west, the complex mountain ranges of Myanmar stretch as far as the eye can see, while to the east, the Fang District basin is covered in a soft, thick layer of white clouds.

An unmissable activity after descending is visiting the Fang Hot Springs located at the park's lower headquarters. These are natural geothermal springs where you can enjoy mineral baths, steam rooms, and the fun activity of boiling eggs in water reaching 80°C. This provides excellent muscle relaxation after a long trek. The combination of high-altitude adventure and thermal relaxation makes Doi Pha Hom Pok a uniquely well-rounded destination compared to other mountains.

Doi Pha Hom Pok leaves a lasting impression on travelers seeking an authentic connection with nature and true tranquility. Every step on this summit connects you to the grandeur of the Thai-Myanmar forest and the well-preserved high-altitude ecosystem. It is a destination every traveler should conquer at least once to store beautiful memories amidst the cold winds of Doi Pha Luang.
