Tham Lod Nua and Tham Lod Tai (Northern and Southern Water-Tunnel Caves) in Bor Thor Village, Ao Luek, Krabi, is a renowned eco-tourism destination set within a dramatic karst landscape of towering limestone cliffs and dense mangrove forests. Located near Than Bok Khorani National Park and connected to Tham Phi Hua To, it forms part of one of Krabi’s most famous kayaking routes.

The site consists of two main cave tunnels: Tham Lod Tai and Tham Lod Nuea. Tham Lod Tai is shorter and easier to pass through, featuring beautiful stalactites and a lower ceiling. Tham Lod Nuea is larger, longer, and more winding, offering a more immersive and adventurous kayaking experience.

Visitors typically explore the area by kayak or long-tail boat along brackish canals influenced by tidal changes. The water level varies throughout the day, and the best time to pass through the caves is during low or moderate tide.

Inside the caves, the temperature remains cool year-round. Sunlight filtering through cave openings reflects off the water and limestone formations, creating shimmering effects that enhance the mysterious atmosphere. Some sections have low ceilings, requiring visitors to duck while paddling.

Beyond the caves, the surrounding mangrove forest is rich in biodiversity, home to various coastal species and unique plant life. This makes Tham Lod not only an adventure destination but also an important natural learning site in Krabi.

• From Ao Luek, take Highway 4039 toward Laem Sak for about 2 km, then turn toward Bor Thor Pier. Rent a kayak or hire a long-tail boat to access the caves.

• Check tide schedules before visiting
