“Experience an adventurous river cave, wading through crystal-clear water to admire shimmering stalactites and stalagmites.”

Tham Hong is a destination for travelers who enjoy adventure and wish to explore nature up close. The cave is located in Krung Ching Subdistrict, Nopphitam District, within the expansive area of Khao Luang National Park. Its most distinctive feature is that it is a river cave, with a freshwater stream flowing through the cave all year round, keeping the water inside cool, clear, and refreshing.

Visitors exploring the cave must walk through the stream, with water levels generally ranging from shin to waist height_. Inside, the cave is divided into several chambers filled with fascinating stalactites and stalagmites that are still actively forming. When light shines on the cave walls, the calcite crystals sparkle beautifully, resembling gemstones embedded in stone.

The most iconic feature is a limestone formation that resembles a swan spreading its wings, which inspired the name “Tham Hong” (Swan Cave). There are also small cascading waterfalls inside the cave, creating natural echoes and a soothing soundtrack that resonates throughout the chambers. The atmosphere inside is dark, cool, and humid, evoking both excitement and mystery.

The cave route often exits on the opposite side of the mountain, revealing lush green forest scenery. The rich ecosystem around Tham Hong offers opportunities to spot unique plant species and small cave-dwelling animals. As the cave remains relatively unknown, it retains a peaceful and pristine environment.

For safety reasons, visitors must be accompanied by national park officers at all times. The water flowing through Tham Hong is part of the upstream ecosystem that sustains the Krung Ching forest and nearby communities. The fresh air and natural surroundings make this journey a perfect way to recharge both body and mind.

Whether you are an adventure photographer or a geology enthusiast, Tham Hong offers a memorable underground experience shaped by water and time over millions of years. Exploring the cave with only a headlamp guiding your way allows you to truly feel the power and grandeur of nature. After exiting the cave, visitors can also explore the peaceful lifestyle of the nearby Krung Ching community. Tham Hong is therefore an ideal addition to any eco-adventure itinerary in Nopphitam.
