“Experience multimedia exhibitions on the Pak Phanang River Basin, and learn about the royal genius behind solving salinity intrusion and drought problems.”

The Royal Commemorative Museum for Pak Phanang River Basin Development stands as a living tribute to the compassion, dedication, and royal benevolence of King Rama IX toward the people of Pak Phanang. The museum serves as an important learning center that documents the long struggle between local communities and the challenging natural conditions of one of Southern Thailand’s most significant river basins.

Inside the museum, visitors will find modern exhibitions presented through multimedia technology, vividly illustrating the hardships caused by saltwater intrusion and prolonged droughts in the past. Life-size models and displays portray the traditional lifestyle of Pak Phanang residents, whose lives were deeply connected to the river, rice farming, and fishing—once making this area the agricultural heartland of the South.

The heart of the museum lies in presenting the royal initiatives on integrated water management, designed to effectively separate freshwater from seawater. Visitors gain a clear understanding of the operational mechanisms of the Uthokaviphat Prasit Floodgate, the key infrastructure that revitalized the Pak Phanang area and restored its ecological and agricultural balance.

The exhibition areas are systematically arranged, starting from the historical background of Pak Phanang, environmental challenges, royal concepts, and continuing through the practical implementation of the development project. A dedicated video room showcases the story of cooperation between government agencies and local communities in turning the King’s vision into reality.

The museum building itself is beautifully designed and prominently located along the riverbank, offering panoramic views of the surrounding development area. The landscaped grounds feature native plants and riverside walkways, providing a calm and pleasant atmosphere for visitors.

In addition to academic knowledge, the museum preserves traditional agricultural tools and household items, reflecting the wisdom and way of life of past generations. There is also a special exhibition room displaying royal history and rare photographs of His Majesty’s visits to Pak Phanang, which are rarely seen elsewhere.

From the museum balcony, visitors can admire the long floodgate stretching across the river, a powerful and inspiring sight. The tranquility and knowledge gained from this place leave visitors with a deep appreciation of the King’s tireless dedication to improving the lives of his people.
