“Featuring a majestic white-gold pagoda enshrining sacred relics of Sariputta and Moggallana. Located in the southeast, it serves as a spiritual fortress granting peace and prosperity.”

Phrathat Sri Khun is a highly revered stupa located at Wat Phrathat Sri Khun in Na Kae District, Nakhon Phanom. Its history dates back to approximately 1797 when it was discovered by Laotian migrants who had settled in the region. Historically, Na Kae was a strategic military zone and a frequent battlefield during conflicts between the Lan Xang and Siamese kingdoms, as well as a center of political activity during the Cold War era. Therefore, the existence and subsequent restoration of the stupa symbolize the attainment of peace and spiritual protection for the local community. Architecturally, the stupa exhibits the elegant Lan Xang style, bearing a resemblance to the iconic Phrathat Phanom but on a smaller scale. Standing about 24 meters tall with a square base, the structure is adorned with intricate golden stucco motifs that contrast beautifully against its pristine white exterior.

The interior of the stupa enshrines the sacred relics of three paramount Arahants: Sariputta, Moggallana, and Katyayana, making it an exceptional site of pilgrimage. According to regional beliefs and Mekong River astrological traditions, Phrathat Sri Khun is designated as the official birth pagoda for those born on "Tuesday". This association is based on its geographic location in the southeast, the direction governed by Tuesday in ancient cosmological charts. The name "Sri Khun" literally translates to "multiplied honor and dignity," reflecting the courageous and warrior-like spirit associated with those born on Tuesday. Devotees believe that paying respects here will enhance one's prestige, multiply their merits, and provide emotional stability, drawing inspiration from the wisdom and miraculous powers of the Arahants whose relics reside within this sacred monument.
