“Witness the production of Din So Phong from natural white marl, utilizing local wisdom in the only site in Thailand that preserves such amazing natural purity.”

Din So Phong Village is the largest and most important center of powdered clay production in Thailand. The village is located in an area with unique geological characteristics, where large deposits of marl soil, locally known as “din si phong,” lie beneath the ground. This type of soil is extremely fine, naturally white, and ideally suited for producing high-quality powdered clay that has long been distributed throughout the country.

The production process in this community has preserved its traditional methods in every detail. It begins with extracting marl soil from the ground and dissolving it in water, followed by multiple filtration stages to remove impurities until a highly purified clay solution is obtained. The liquid clay is then dropped onto drying yards in a process known as “clay dropping,” forming small round pellets about the size of a thumb, which are left to dry naturally under the sun.

On clear, sunny days, the entire village is covered with neatly arranged fields of bright white drying clay, creating a striking and rare landscape seldom seen in modern times. These scenes not only reflect traditional production techniques but also tell the story of a way of life deeply connected to nature.

Visiting the powdered clay village is not merely about observing the manufacturing process, but about experiencing the heart of Thai local wisdom, where natural resources are transformed into sustainable livelihoods. Powdered clay is used in many aspects of daily life, including Songkran festival powder, traditional medicine, skincare, as well as construction and fishing industries, reflecting generations of accumulated knowledge and experience.

Moreover, the area serves as a natural studio for photographers seeking to capture the simple rural lifestyle passed down through generations. Images of white clay pellets arranged under strong sunlight convey a sense of cleanliness, purity, and calm, revealing the quiet beauty of a simple yet meaningful way of life.

Ban Hin Song Kon Powdered Clay Village invites visitors to learn about the process of creating cultural heritage from the earth itself, support unique local products of Lopburi, and take part in preserving this invaluable traditional wisdom for future generations.
