“Conquer the peak symbolized by a massive, naturally pagoda-shaped rock. Experience the chilly breeze and an exciting ridge trail while enjoying panoramic views of Khiri Mat District and the vast western forest”
Phra Chedi Peak is located within Ramkhamhaeng National Park and is one of the four main peaks that hikers must visit when conquering Khao Luang Sukhothai. Standing at approximately 1,185 meters above mean sea level, it is slightly lower than Phra Mae Ya Peak. However, its most memorable feature is the group of massive boulders atop the summit. When viewed from a distance, these rocks resemble a stone pagoda built by human hands; in reality, it is a geological phenomenon caused by millions of years of natural erosion.
The trail to Phra Khao Chedi Peak connects from the main campsite on the Khao Luang ridge. The path mostly winds along the ridge, alternating between grasslands and rocky outcrops. Hikers will encounter rare highland flora, such as ground orchids and moss covering the rock crevices. The atmosphere along the way is open and airy, allowing hikers to enjoy surrounding views almost constantly, which helps ease the exhaustion from the climb.
Standing at the highest point of Phra Khao Chedi Peak, you will find true peace and relaxation. The view from here offers a clear sight of the complex mountain ranges in Sukhothai and neighboring provinces. In the morning, a sea of mist often swirls around the base of the pagoda rock, making it look like a heavenly pagoda floating among the clouds. During the day, sunlight hits the sandstone surface, revealing a golden-brown hue against the blue sky a sight that nature photographers should not miss.
Phra Khao Chedi Peak is not only a beautiful viewpoint but also a symbol of stability and faith for the locals living around Khao Luang. Reaching this peak and touching the giant pagoda-shaped rock is like receiving energy from nature and conquering one's inner fears. Amidst the cold weather and strong winds, this peak makes you realize the greatness of nature and the timeless beauty it has created for the people of Sukhothai.
